A new initiative has been launched to improve learning and training opportunities in Berwick.
The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Northumberland Strategic Partnership (NSP) are to lead the programme designed to improve prospects for all and help provide a highly skilled, motivated and flexible workforce.
A feasibility has been carried out, focusing on the possibilities of improving local resources and access to education and training for 14-19 year old learners, adult learners, businesses and employees. The aim is to secure world class learning provision in Berwick.
Berwick’s Future, the framework under which the learning and training initiative falls, is focused on the goal of securing economic stability through sustained growth and it is hoped that improved learning provision will assist in the plan of creating an enterprising, ambitious and competitive town.
The learning and training initiative is expected to be developed by September 2008, with the assistance of Berwick’s Future partners. Lee Thurman, partnership manager at the LSC said: “Providing a highly skilled and motivated workforce is crucial to Berwick’s economic success and we are committed to ensuring that all people living in the Berwick area have the opportunity to access quality learning.
Shona Alexander, Director of Regeneration for Berwick upon Tweed said: “The goal is to make it as easy as possible for people in Berwick to access learning services.”
